In our A Day in the Life series, we take the opportunity to recognize some of Jitjatjo’s remarkable Change Agents. In this segment, we meet HR Payroll Manager, Ashley. Ashley tells us about her typical day, shares some of her proudest moments at Jitjatjo and what she loves about her job.

Name:  Ashley De Torres

Title:  HR Payroll Manager

I love working at Jitjatjo because of its people and feeling a sense of belongingness and the support I receive from the day I started until now.

What do you do at Jitjatjo and how long have you been with the company?
HR Payroll Manager, 4 years and 2 months.

What is your typical day like? Upon waking up at 8am, I meditate for at least 10-15 mins, stretch, and check my phone for any urgent matters. I make my morning iced matcha latte, plan my day ahead, and check my schedule. I have a very detailed schedule with 98% of my time allocated for all of my duties and responsibilities. Once everything is planned out, I’ll start off by checking my slack messages and emails then checking in with my team. Being an HR Payroll Manager has allowed me to engage and build relationships with not only Change Agents but also with our Talent community. Every day I make sure that messages from our Talent community are replied to and heard. I also work hand in hand with our Community Management team and the Client Success team for any HR-related issues, concerns, and feedback.

How would you describe Jitjatjo in 3 words?
Innovative, Collaborative, Empowering

Why did you choose Jitjatjo?
Jitjatjo actually chose me. I was introduced to Jitjatjo by a former colleague. From the first day on the job, I fell in love with the culture, diversity, environment, and the company’s goals. At Jitjatjo, they put their people first. They invest and support their employees to be the best version of themselves. And of course, I also liked the flexibility of working remotely even before the pandemic started.

What do you love most about working at Jitjatjo?
The people, flexibility, and innovativeness. I love how our team is very collaborative and very supportive of each other. We make sure that every single team has resources and is set up for success. It is a given that when you’re working in a startup company, innovativeness is innate but at Jitjatjo, we never stop looking for more ways to help our community through human empowerment by creating opportunities for them.

What do you think makes a great team?

A great team is a team with a “We” mindset rather than an “I” mindset. A team should have great communication towards each other, always willing to help one another, share the same goals, and most important have trust with each other.

What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?
I moved from the Philippines to New York.

What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
Never stop learning and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

What has been your proudest moment at Jitjatjo?
I am proud that I’ve been with Jitjatjo for 4 years, 2 months, and counting. I started as an intern, worked my way up, and got promoted to HR Payroll Manager managing a team with different personalities but full of drive, motivation, and potential. It also makes me proud to see Jitjatjo come out of the COVID-19 pandemic stronger than ever.

What do you hope to achieve in the coming months, year(s)?
For early next year, longing for getting back to normalcy.

Personally - to settle down.
